You don't have to line up behind the catcher. Use SmartPitch where you watch or manage the game.
Where should I place my smartphone?
It is up to you. SmartPitch is more flexible than radar guns and gives you "Freedom of Location". You can place your smartphone in the dugout, in foul territory, in the bullpen, or near the batting cage. Color-coded touch-screen diagrams will guide you. See tutorials in the Blogs tab; search for "set up".
How accurate is SmartPitch?
SmartPitch is accurate to 0.2 mph if you input accurate set up information for your phone's location, the rubber, and home. Improper set-up reduces absolute accuracy, but the relative differences between pitch speeds will still be accurate.
What does Game and Practice mode mean?
The location you choose to set up at determines Game mode or Practice mode. In Game Mode, use SmartPitch from the dugout or foul territory during a live game. In Practice mode, put it near the bullpen rubber or the batting cage.
Does SmartPitch work on cloudy days?
On most cloudy days SmartPitch will work, except for very dark and rainy days since the app needs enough light to see the ball. If you have a choice of sides of the field, keep the sun at your back & do not face the sun. Also, "Settings" has an optional Light Sensitivity slider to adjust for low contrast or high contrast situations.
Any tips for Practice Mode?
Users get best Practice mode results when they locate their phone 20 to 30 feet to the side of the rubber or home and 0 feet behind rubber or phone, that is, even with it. Visit our SetUp tab or the Blog tab and search for "Setup" to learn more.
What about other Speed Apps?
Stop-Watch apps tend to be very inaccurate since they require human start & stop clicks. The ball can arrive at home in less than 0.5 seconds. With SmartPitch, it takes the human element out so only the true speed is recorded. SmartPitch gives you the accuracy of a real radar gun at less than 1% of the price.
